The Youth Science Institute recently celebrated a milestone in its ongoing fundraising efforts. Executive director Susanne Mulcahy accepted a check for $860 from employees of The Alarm Company, a Los Gatos-based business that started an innovative fundraising program for YSI. Mulcahy, left, is pictured with Chris Walker, Kenny Aerts and Mike Powell. Not pictured is Larry Walker, who is on YSI’s advisory board and is CEO of The Alarm Company. He put fliers in his customers’ bills offering them a free month of monitoring service if they donated $50 to YSI. The ongoing program has proved wildly successful, with more than 100 customers donating more than $30,000 over the last three years. YSI serves more than 30,000 children annually through its nature and science programs and expects to increase that figure by 15 percent this year.
